Several factors have contributed to increasing student enrollment at the school. These include the
- support provided by the Foundation Accès-École Pierre Kirandage in assisting students at Ruvumu elementary school as of 2004.
- abolition of the elementary school fees by the Burundian government’s in 2005
Parents from surrounding villages are choosing to enroll their children in Ruvumu where they hope to receive assistance from the Foundation.
As a result, in 2006-2007 school year, the number of students admitted to the first grade was 175 for a single classroom. It has, become increasingly difficult for everyone to find a place at the school in Ruvumu.
To deal with this issue, the school committee, in consultation with the Foundation, proposed expanding the school by building 6 new classrooms, a library and a reading room. The construction of these new rooms would enable all school-age children in Ruvumu to attend school.
The people of Ruvumu have mobilized around this project, estimated at a cost 50,000 Canadian dollars. Inhabitants have contributed in various ways, either by volunteering to collect rubble stones, or by doing brick-making work, such as masonry or by contributing money to buy materials. Parents recognize the value of education and realize that they need to be directly involved in expanding education facilities and to not rely solely on external assistance.
Thus, the contribution of the local population to this project is estimated to be around 6,000 Canadian dollars. The Foundation intervenes by supporting them in their efforts.
These initiatives allow children to acquire the knowledge and education necessary for their social and economic development.
We invite you to support the Ruvumu School in carrying out their mission aimed at providing an education for their children.
You can do so by sending your donation to the Fondation Accès – École
